Today is International Pipe Smoking Day!!!

International Pipe Smoking Day has been observed annually on February 20th since 2008. This date has been included in the calendar thanks to the initiative of The Vancouver Pipe Club. There are around IO million pipe-smokers in the USA and 1.5 million in the UK. Many pipe clubs organize meetings and annual celebrations to celebrate this special day for pipe smokers and hobbyists. The pipe-smoking communities appeal to spend some time that day on the noble art of pipe-smoking and admiration for the beauty enchanted in the root briar. At numerous meetings, they pass on tradition, history and old habits to the younger generations. All the lovers of this day argue that smoking a pipe is more than just a hobby. It’s an art that richly rewards those who practice it. Here the words of Albert Einstein are asking to be quoted: “Smoking a pipe provides a calm and objective judgment of human affairs”. So come on down to The Pipe Rack and check out our pipes, tobacco and accessories and enjoy a very happy INTERNATIONAL PIPE SMOKING DAY!!!

Ice Fishing Safety

As more and more people are coming in and getting ice fishing equipment this year we wanted to remind everyone to be safe and to follow the Ice Safety Guidelines:

  1. Stay off of any ice that is 3 inches or less thick.
  2. Remember that a minimum of 4 inches of clear, solid ice is a requirement to support an average person’s weight. Don’t forget that it’s’ important to check ice thickness using tools such as spud bar, ice auger, and ruler every few steps.
  3. Never go fishing on the ice alone. Always bring along a fishing buddy, and let a friend or family member know where you are going.
  4. Avoid any ice that is covered by snow or slush. Keep your eyes open for any cracks or changes on the surface of the ice.
